COVID-19 ALERT: In light of the recent rise in cases due to the Delta variant, breakfast will not be served and masks will be required at Denver/Lake Norman Rotary meetings for the foreseeable future.
Some of the teachers were so touched by our "Stuff the Bus" efforts that they sent thank yous to Sherry Reinhardt and Denver/Lake Norman Rotary.
President's Message
Ellen Fichtelman
Hello Rotarians!
We will meet Wednesday September 15th at Unity Presbyterian at 7:30am and our Speaker will be Jerry Park on the Rotary International Foundation. This will likely be my last meeting before Jim and I’s little one arrives, so I am looking forward to seeing you all! A special thank you to Perry Clark and Thomas Eatmon for their willingness to lead meetings in my upcoming absence.
Due to covid restrictions we are still requiring masks and forgoing breakfast. I will start the meeting promptly at 7:45am. Just a friendly reminder that masks are to be properly worn over the mouth and nose.
Wednesday is the last day for donations to Operation Warm. For those who want to donate, please make checks out to the Denver/LKN Rotary Club Foundation.
YIRS, Ellen
The Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club welcomed Mike Stevenson, District 7670 RYLA/Interact Committee Chair to our meeting on Wednesday, September 08, as our guest speaker. Mike is from the Madison County Club and made the drive down the mountain to Denver to speak with us.
Mike provided a slideshow with an overview of the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards). Due to the Covid Virus, the RYLA was unable to have a program for 2021. But plans are full steam ahead to the program to happen in March 2022. The weekend event will be held at the YMCA’s Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, NC. This is centrally located in District 7670. This event is scheduled for March 24 – 27, 2022. The cost per student will be $300.00 per. The age range for the event is current 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. Our club had sponsored three (3) participants for the 2021 RYLA that has been cancelled. We hope to send three (3) additional participants for the 2022 RYLA.
The goals of the RYLA program are:
Teach leadership skills, techniques
Build confidence
Have fun and form lasting friendship
Create Rotary awareness (they are the future)

This is our club's third year working with Operation Warm to provide a new winter coat for every child in foster care in Lincoln County. We purchase at least 110 coats that keep infants, children, teens and young adults (birth to 21 years) warm all winter.
At CAPC in Lincolnton, Sherry Reinhardt has replenished children's books in memory of Rotarian Andy Scriven and his Race to Reading initiative. Sherry, her staff and the children absolutely love them!
