Denver Days 2014: Held on September 24th

Welcome to Denver Days! Denver Days is a community festival in Denver, NC started in 2003 by a group of local leaders who wanted to build a park in Denver. It has grown into a four day festival with Wednesday and Thursday nights having rides and entertainment and then Friday night and Saturday from noon to 10:00pm with rides, entertainment and food and a variety of vendors. Denver Days, Inc. is a non-profit tax-exempt organization whose members come from the membership of the local Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club. craig-woolardThe Rotary Club sponsors Denver Days and provides the majority of the volunteer hours needed to put on this annual festival. The net proceeds from Denver Days go to support the building of Rescue Squad Park here in Denver. This year, Denver Days was excited to have Craig Woolard as the Saturday night entertainment. This was the second time Craig has been to Denver Days. We hope everyone who attended enjoyed the Craig Woolard concert experience!

Cole Rides was here again for 2014!

For several years, Denver Days has enjoyed a successful relationship with Cole Rides, known as Virginia’s “Finest in Family Entertainment.” Cole brings us a variety of rides from those designed for the very small ones to the rides that we adults have more sense than to ride! Their rides are modern, well-maintained and are inspected so you know safety comes first and that’s important. Cole has been in the amusement business for over 20 years and does a great job! Each ride is priced separately and individual ride tickets or blocks of tickets may be purchased from the ticket booth, just through the Rotary Club Welcome tent. The lines tend to get a little long, so go ahead and buy those extra tickets; just saves going back to get more and you save money! Cole also brings their carnival midway with games and plenty of food. They have the “county fair” food that lots of us remember, from popcorn and cotton candy to ice cream and funnel cakes!

zipperThe Zipper is the standard measuring stick to which all other “scary” rides are measured – if you can handle two and a half minutes on the Zipper, you can handle any other ride on a carnival midway!! The ride is lean and mean. The zipper’s 12 passenger cages are all about practicality – just large enough to encase two human bodies – side by side. Not for weak-hearted, certainly not for the claustrophobic!
expoRide the Rainforest Expo Wheel. Beautifully decorated in a Rainforest theme and Exhilarating light show. Enjoy the view from atop.
wurmThe Wiggle Wurm Ride – a thrilling kiddie ride thats fun for all the little ones. Lots of Smiles and Giggles as the Momma and Daddy bird chase the work to feed the baby birdes in the center.
rainbowThis ride really has to be seen in motion to be appreciated. This major thrill ride offers riders and spectators a graceful, well-lit and perfectly themed picture with it’s Multicolored Background and Smooth exhibition. It’s amazing height dominates with a breathtaking view of the fairgrounds. The Rainbow is sure to appeal to riders of all ages with it’s orbiting motion and feeling of weightlessness.
catchnairThe All NEW and Exciting Catch N’ Air! Hang onto Your Hat!! This Skateboard themed coaster will have you racing back to get in line again and again.
scatRound and Round you go on this exciting major thrill ride. Exciting movement and thrilling light show as you stand aboard the Scat.
supershotUp to Twelve riders are securely fastened into the gondola using seat belts and over-the-shoulder restraints. Then rising 90′ in the air, riders soon plummet back to the ground! Unlike some drop towers, the SUPERSHOT gondola is launched from the top of the tower downward using two hydraulic cylinders to give riders the ultimate free fall experience.
carouselHop aboard this favorite ride with it’s Classic Horses and Colorful Animals. Choose to ride one of the many animals or enjoy the Chariot as you whirl around on the Carousel. A favorite for ALL!
quadThe ALL NEW Quad Runner – Lots of Smiles and Giggles as they hit the track on their Quad Runners!
wavethunderThe Wave Thunder and Hampton Combo – two thrilling kiddie rides that are fun for all the little ones. Lots of Smiles and Giggles as they hit the waves or choose your favorite vehicle and don’t forget the horns and whistles.
junglecrawlYour Little One will want to make many trips thru Jungle Crawl – through the balls, across the bridge and down the slide.

2013 Recap

Adults and kids have a good time on the kiddie coaster. The 2013 Denver Days festival had to be one of the best yet!  The crowds were large Wednesday and Thursday evenings as the students paid one price and ride all night long!  The Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club sponsors Denver Days, and had a fund-raising cookout – must have been decent food since we sold out both nights! We had good music all three nights and for those who had not heard Jim Quick and Coastline (Saturday night), they were treated to some awesome music and a great show by Jim!  Gonna have to have them back at a future Denver Days!  Thank you also to Chosen Rejects, Treehouse and Bob May for great music and entertainment. The 2013 festival was the 11th annual Denver Days, and the Denver Days Board looks for suggestions to make 2014 even better.  Suggestions come from the Board and from the Rotary Club, and we would love suggestions from you!  Anything you feel should be continued, anything you feel should be started or stopped or any changes please let us know.  You can post or email info@denverdays.com. The Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club has managed Denver Days for the last 3 years, with 100% of the net revenue going directly to the “East Lincoln Rescue Park” and we should be ready to have a ground breaking for the park in 2014.  By coming and having fun at Denver Days, you are helping the park construction!  Now, isn’t that a great deal? Thanks to everyone who came and had a good time.  Thanks for the Special Needs Kids who had a great time Thursday afternoon.  Thanks to the bands, all the vendors and businesses, the sponsors, advertisers and all the volunteers who made this happen! We’re now planning the 2014 festival, and it’s time for your suggestions.  We would love to hear from you!

Recap of Special Needs Kids Day

You should have seen the excitement on the kid’s faces when Hecht Development and The Hecht Team Real Estate sponsored the “Special Needs Kids Day” which was Thursday afternoon. The parents would come to the registration table so we could give a wristband for the free rides, tokens ($1.00 value each) so they could buy up to $5.00 of cotton candy, popcorn, snow cone, any food we had. J.K. Cones had a card worth one free soft-serve ice cream cone for each – thanks to Jack Funk! They rode the rides and all had a big time, and when leaving were treated by a stuffed animal from Cole Rides. Most were asleep in the car as they pulled out! The Hecht Team has sponsored this event for several years and both Nicole and Bob Hecht said they wanted to be involved forever; just a great afternoon for everyone! Thanks also to Linda Hecht. Wednesday afternoon during Denver Days is reserved for a Special Time for Special Needs Kids and we just love to show you a great time! We invite your parents to bring you to Denver Days, and bring your brothers and sisters also. Most of the rides will be open and free, plus food and drinks are on the house. No crowds, little or no lines, parking is close for you and from what we have heard and seen the past years, this time is very special. Hearing the parents say “thanks” and explain how their son or daughter cannot go to Denver Days without this time being set aside. “The crowds are just too large” is what we hear, along with stories of a child riding the ferris wheel for the very first time! “My Dad and I love kids and ask to sponsor this event every year” said Nicole Hecht of The Hecht Team, sponsors of the Special Needs Kids Day. “Seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter and just seeing everyone enjoy themselves is worth the preparation time and the afternoon at the festival” continued Hecht. Nicole and her Dad work as “The Hecht Team Real Estate” with Coldwell Banker United, Realtors Denver office. The Special Needs Kids day is Wednesday from 1 PM to 3 PM and is open to all special needs kids and their immediate families and we would love for you to join us! For the information flyer and to RSVP please email Nicole or Bob at hechtteam@cbunited.com. You can call Bob at 704-634-4444 or Nicole at 704-309-7883. Please RSVP so we can plan!

Thank You 2014 Sponsors!

Please show your support for our sponsors; without the financial commitment Denver Days could not be a reality from year to year. Denver Days 2001 netted $31,000 toward the East Lincoln Rescue Park, and in 2012, we set a new total of $33,000, which has been presented to the Rotary Club Foundation. The Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club has committed to the park project, pledging 100% of the net proceeds from Denver Days to the Park. Rotary is planning for a ground breaking ceremony in 2014 and appreciates the help from our sponsors. Local businesses are asked very often to support this cause or that one, and it’s not possible to help with everything. The Rotary Club has worked toward the public park for over 4 years and it is now becoming a reality! Please frequent these sponsors and thank them for their community support! A Gold sponsor is $2,500, Event sponsor costs $1,500, Silver is $1,000 and a Bronze sponsor $500. Making the sponsorship commitment is a serious monetary decision for a business and very important to Denver Days and the park.
