President's Message

Happy last week of March my fellow Rotarians!

Well, just when I thought having my first grandchild was the most exciting news EVER!!! (And it is!) I received a phone call from our very own Panico Peres with the particulars for the special speaker joining us live in a few weeks. One of our honorary members Amilton Medeiros, who, like Panico is also from Brazil has managed to get the Rotary International President Nominee Mario Cesar Martins de Camargo (President 2025-2026, after incoming President Stephanie Urchick) to graciously to do a LIVE meeting which will be hosted by us. Say WHAT? This is HUGE!  As in COLOSSAL in the world of Rotary! What a special treat this will be, so please mark your calendars for April 17th at 7:30 am, don your best Rotary swag, and be prepared to give Mario a warm Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Welcome! A link will go out to those who cannot attend, as well as other clubs in the district, but Denver/Lake Norman Rotarians will be able to ask questions! More news to follow as Panico and Vickey prepare to be sure the meeting runs smoothly. I am so excited for this opportunity. (Imagine me jumping up and down while crying all at the same time - that’s how excited I am for all of us!)

Now, back to being a Grandie!  This has been a week of snuggles and kisses and wow how a baby changes on the daily! Thank you all for the gifts and kind words! The card everyone signed will be in a special photo album so Nora-Kate can one day see how many people have her grandparents' (and her) backs. You are the absolute BEST and I love each and everyone of you!

Make it a productive and reflective week!  See you this Wednesday!  NO meeting April 3rd.

Andie

Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Exceeds Goal for District 7670 CART Campaign Ending 3/31

Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's CART Campaign has been highly successful so far.  President Andie Taylor and CART Chair Joe Lampron report that currently the total amount collected between http://mycartfund.org and the blue buckets is $3,288.91 and has exceeded our group's goal of $2,661.  Thank you!

Founded in 1995 by Roger Ackerman, a Rotarian in Sumter, SC, The CART Fund (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) is a non-profit grassroots organization that provides “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research grants to help find a treatment or cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Roger passed away in 2018, yet to this day, we still adhere to our founder’s initial mission – that 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to research! Since 1999, 64 grants totaling more than $11 million have been awarded to 62 recognized research institutions in the United States.

The CART Fund is a 501(C)3 organization (Federal ID #31-1466051) governed by an Executive Committee and a Board of Directors composed of representatives from qualified Rotary districts that support the program. CART is chartered as a nonprofit organization under the laws of the state of South Carolina.

CART has been recognized as an “angel charity” by the SC Secretary of State for being “extremely effective at giving a high percentage of their total expenditures directly to programs for their designated cause, their compliance with the S.C. Solicitation of Charitable Funds Act, and their high use of volunteers in their fundraising efforts.”

While primarily supported by members of Rotary Clubs in the United States, CART has an active volunteer base and can accept donations of major gifts, bequests or volunteer efforts from anyone. A new donor recognition program was recently introduced, allowing “recurring donors” through the online system to be designated as members of the “Roger Ackerman Circle.” Click here: https://mycartfund.org/ to sign in with your DACdb user name and password.  To donate without using your DACdb credentials, click here: https://mycartfund.org/NewUser.cfm.
