President's Message

Hello my fellow Service Above Self Rotarians! You will be receiving this message POST Super Bowl LVIII but know that it is written PRE Bowl-time! I have no skin in this game (other than I love Taylor Swift) but I do like the great football that has been played by all of the teams in the past three weeks! May the best team win!

ASBURY ACADEMY - THIS Tuesday Feb 13, 2024 our club is to help spread some love at The Asbury Academy in Lincolnton from 10:30-12:30 (to help with set up and clean up). Sherry is asking for volunteers and we will sit at the tables with the kids to work on a craft about love and kindness. She also requests Candy or other St. Valentine’s Day  items. If you want to get those to me feel free to drop them by my office on Monday and I can connect with Sherry (2173 Smith Harbour Dr. Denver, NC 28037).

Also taking place this Tuesday is our next social “Taco Tuesday” at Margaritas in Denver starting at 5 pm. Grab your SIGOT (significant other) or a friend and prepare to have a great time! Anyone there by 5:15 will get a free Cerveza on me. Let’s all show some LOVE to the Social Committee for the stellar job they have been doing in their flagship year!

Just a little bit of business - be prepared to sign up for a committee in the next week. If you are not on a committee by Feb 21st one will be assigned to you. We need to spread the workload.

Lastly, If you would like to attend the District Conference this year that is taking place in fabulous Greenville, SC on the weekend of April 20th you can receive $25 off of the registration fee this week in honor of the Super Bowl. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

Make it a great week and don’t forget St. Valentine’s Day is Wednesday! Get those chocolates and flowers asap!

Andie

Deadline for Contributions to the District 7670 CART Campaign is March 31st

Founded in 1995 by Roger Ackerman, a Rotarian in Sumter, SC, The CART Fund (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) is a non-profit grassroots organization that provides “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research grants to help find a treatment or cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Roger passed away in 2018, yet to this day, we still adhere to our founder’s initial mission – that 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to research! Since 1999, 64 grants totaling more than $11 million have been awarded to 62 recognized research institutions in the United States.

The CART Fund is a 501(C)3 organization (Federal ID #31-1466051) governed by an Executive Committee and a Board of Directors composed of representatives from qualified Rotary districts that support the program. CART is chartered as a nonprofit organization under the laws of the state of South Carolina.

CART has been recognized as an “angel charity” by the SC Secretary of State for being “extremely effective at giving a high percentage of their total expenditures directly to programs for their designated cause, their compliance with the S.C. Solicitation of Charitable Funds Act, and their high use of volunteers in their fundraising efforts.”

While primarily supported by members of Rotary Clubs in the United States, CART has an active volunteer base and can accept donations of major gifts, bequests or volunteer efforts from anyone. A new donor recognition program was recently introduced, allowing “recurring donors” through the online system to be designated as members of the “Roger Ackerman Circle.” Click here: https://mycartfund.org/ to sign in with your DACdb user name and password.  To donate without using your DACdb credentials, click here: https://mycartfund.org/NewUser.cfm.
