On Wednesday, April 13th, Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's very own Sherry Rhinehart brought to the club a special service project. In the previous two weekly Rotary meetings, Sherry had presented a list of items that were needed to put together Easter baskets. These included bags of candy, small games, small stuffed animals and other small items that would make great Easter basket gifts.
Sherry is the Executive Director of the Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse & Child Advocacy Center. There are times during the year that the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary partners with the LCCAC on special projects. The work they do for Lincoln County produces powerful results.
This project was to assemble individual bags that would be for small children and elementary, middle, or high school youth. These were designed with a girl or boy as the receiver, so you had to make choices as to what items would be included for the baskets. Sherry had told us that the number of baskets that they would be putting together was around 75. So, we went down the line, filling our bags with our favorite candy and other goodies. It was great knowing that the children would receive these Easter baskets.
Pamphlets and information cards were distributed on each table that had information about the LCCAC. The pamphlets are filled with information about how the programs work and how much legal work in needed to help protect the rights of the children. Also provided were of the “Make the Call” cards with included telephone of agencies in Lincoln County that area available to help not only the children but women and men in need also.
