Isaac Owoladi brought a great message- and great enthusiasm(!)- to our club this week in his talk and discussion about leadership and qualities that can make a good leader.
Charlie Bohlen shared with the club some outstanding results and support for his OPERATION WARM! And Todd, Anna (our guest) and Thomas brought us up to date on RACE TO EDUCATE which is the next generation of the previous “Auction” event. This year’s event will be on Sept 18 and will kick off from our own Rescue Squad Park at 3pm. Sounds like a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
This week, another important speaker arrives as DISTRICT GOVERNOR Tammy Mosteller joins us. I will look forward to seeing her… and you… on Wednesday!

District 7670 Friendship Exchange Chair and Past District Governor Isaac Owoladi Speaks at Rotary
By Steve Baker
The Denver/Lake Norman Rotary welcomed Isaac Owoladi as its speaker on Wednesday, September 7th. Isaac was born in Nigeria, West Africa. He and his wife became naturalized citizens of the United States in 1995. Isaac received his PHD in 1988. He is currently a Professor Emeritus of Business Marketing at Montreat College and is also an ordained minister. He has served in many positions with Rotary, including as District 7670 Governor in 2018-2019. Isaac has over thirty years’ experience as a Rotarian and spent thirty years teaching at high schools, colleges, and universities.
Today, Isaac talked about his experience as a Rotarian. His speech was titled “Ignite and Engage One Another” He covered several points:
As a Rotarian you are a leader
Leadership is not in a name or title
Make room for others to serve
Invite others and tell them they have the skill sets that can be put to work in your club
tell others they possess values that are similar to the values of many in Rotary
Conduct surveys of members' interest
Membership is the key to having a productive Rotary Club and is Isaac's favorite topic. He is always willing to speak to any Rotary about the importance of membership.
Isaac did step away from his college education teaching for six months to write a book. His book, The Leadership Strategies for Nonprofit Organizations, talks about diversity, with an emphasis that diversity and inclusion are strengths, not liabilities.
