Keep Lincoln County Beautiful
By Steve Baker
Denver Lake Norman Rotary welcomed Patty Korn as its speaker on Wednesday, June 03rd. Patty has been a Denver resident for eighteen years. She retired from the United States Air Force after serving for twenty years. After spending ten years in the banking business, she now works as an in-home caregiver for the elderly. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, an MBA for the University of Texas at San Antonio and a legal assistant certificate from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
Patty is a member of Keep Lincoln County Beautiful. KLCB became a non-profit affiliate of Keep America Beautiful with certification on February 15, 2019. Patty served as the President of Keep Lincoln County Beautiful for three years and is currently the Chairperson of the Denver Beautification Committee. The mission of KLBC is to educate, inspire and empower our community to improve the environment through beautification, litter prevention and recycling. A nine member board consisting of three members each from community, government and business oversees the KLBC.
Keep Lincoln County Beautiful comprises three different committees: Litter Prevention, Recycling, and Denver Beautification. The Denver Beautification Committee was organized in 2021 and is supported by the East Lincoln Betterment Association (ELBA). The purpose of the Denver Beautification Committee is to improve the appearance of Denver, NC, and eastern Lincoln County (Catawba Springs and Ironton townships) and the NC-16 business corridor from the Gaston County Line to the Catawba County Line. Some of its accomplishments are: (1) Tree Planting Project at North Lincoln Middle School in 2021, (2) East Lincoln High School Tree Bed Pine Needle Project in 2022, (3) Hill along Hwy-73 added to the NCDOT’s regular mowing schedule, 4) Abandoned home demolished on Pilot Knob Road and 5) Six litter pickup tools for ELHS Beta Club donated to use for monthly cleanups. There are many projects in process for the NCDOT, County and general projects that are listed. Many of these are on-going projects such as the enforcement of the sign rules such as floppy signs left and not picked up, signs on utility poles, and windblown flags.
We should all be proud to have a group of volunteers that make up Keep Lincoln County Beautiful out there doing the work that makes this happen. All one needs to do is look at the roads around Denver and then check the sides of the roads in other places to see the work that has been done. Like all volunteer organizations there are needs to assist to keep the work going.
Denver Beautification Committee needs:

- Volunteers

- Tools: Litter grabbers, black trash bags, etc.
