Rotarian Talk Time

By Steve Baker

Well, it’s back – Rotarian “Who I Am” talk time. At the October 13th Denver/Lake Norman Rotary meeting the club was privileged to have two of its newest members take a few minutes to talk about themselves.

First up was Elijah Baity who was raised in Indiana and graduated from college with a degree in Economics. His work led him to a thirty year career at Corning, from which he is now retired. Elijah has spent a lot of years in Rotary. He served in many positions with the Corning Rotary, including service as club President one year. Denver/Lake Norman Rotary is fortunate to be able to draw on his experiences and ideas. Elijah indicated that he does play golf but claims he is not very good. Of course for those who have heard that statement before, it’s like “we ain’t buying that.”  Elijah also talked about flying kites when he was growing up in Indiana. Now he has found that the activity fields at Rescue Squad (Rotary) Park are a great place to put his kites in the air. He has eighteen different kinds of kites.  So, if you tell him to “go fly a kite,” he just might do that. Rotary extends special welcome to our newest member of two months, Elijah, as well as to his wife Gail.

Brandon Blell also took to the podium to tell us a little about herself.  The club was surprised to learn that she grew up in the Hickory, NC area and after moving a few times settled back here in Denver. Brandon also has a Rotary background. While attending Hickory High School she was member of the school's Rotary Interact Club. Living in Hickory, her family was in the furniture business. After she received her degree from Duke University, Brandon moved back to her home to help with that business. During this time, she was able to implement a set of standards that helped the business to grow. Later the family made the decision to sell the business. Brandon then went to work for EOS Worldwide (The Entrepreneurial Operating System). With this company, she works in the positions of Implementer, Facilitator, and Business Coach. Brandon will certainly be an asset to the club in helping with its community projects.  Rotary extends s big welcome to Brandon, another one of our newest members of two months, as well as to her husband Beni.

Operation Warm Project Successful
Once again, Charlie Bohlen has reported on a successful year for Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's Operation Warm project. Due to the generosity of the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary membership, $2725 was collected for the purchase of brand new coats. With new coats leftover from last year, this year's purchases and a grant from the Foundation of the Carolinas, each of the 107 children in foster care in Lincoln County will have a new coat to wear this winter. Thanks especially to Charlie & Norma Bohlen, Sherry Reinhardt and Cathy Smiley for their generosity.
