One of my favorite movie lines comes from Tombstone. When Johnny Ringo expects to face Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday steps out instead and quietly says, “I'm your huckleberry.” I've probably heard that line a hundred times, but as I've grown older, I've come to appreciate the scene more than the quote. Doc knew exactly what he was doing. He stepped into harm's way for a friend because he believed Wyatt had a greater purpose yet to fulfill. He placed someone else's mission ahead of his own well-being. It reminds me of Rotary's motto: Service Above Self.
Those three words are easy to say, but they ask something profound of us. They invite us to place the needs of others ahead of our own convenience. They challenge us to volunteer when we'd rather stay home, to mentor when we're busy, to give when no one is watching, and to lead even when it's easier to let someone else do it. Service Above Self isn't always found in grand gestures. More often, it's found in quiet decisions made every day:
“I'll help.”
“I'll volunteer.”
“I'll serve.”
In other words...
“I'm your huckleberry.”
As we begin this new Rotary year, my hope is that our club continues to be known as a group of people who don't wait to be asked twice. We see a need, we step forward, and we serve — not for recognition, but because that's who we are. Service Above Self isn't just our motto. It's our answer when the world asks, "Who will help?"

Brad gave to celebrate his wife and he just found out they are about to have a new grandson.
Mike gave for our Independence day, July 4th and said Thomas Jefferson died 50 yrs after our founding and on his death bed he said “you still have John Adams”… but John Adams died the same day and he said on his death bed “at least you still have Thomas Jefferson”.
Andie gave grateful for Trudie and now Ross serving as our President and she's glad she doesn’t have to attend Board meetings anymore.
Sherry let us know there are veggies from her garden to share on the back table.
