The Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club welcomed Erin Schumeyer from Florence Shanklin Denver Branch of the Lincoln County Public Library as guest speaker at its meeting on Wednesday, September 22nd. Erin has been with the Lincoln County Public Library System for three years and is a part of the youth services team.
Erin brought with her examples of the some of the children’s programs that the libraries provide. These programs are available at each of the three Lincoln County Public Libraries - West Lincoln Branch in Vale, the Main Library in Lincolnton, and the East Lincoln Branch in Denver.
There are two programs intended for children ages five years and under: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Both programs provide free books for the children and encourage that children are read to for twenty minutes each day.
The Florence Shanklin Public Library offers a Story Times program - check the library schedule for times as time slots are dedicated for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Also, one can check out eBooks, videos and music designed for youth. The library provides many sources of information that one may be looking for - history, making plans for a trip, local history plus it provides a quiet place to read.
Please check out our local library. A library card can open a new world of information. Sometimes holding a book in one's hand is far better than looking at a computer screen.
