President's Message
Happy Halloween, Rotarians!
Another week and another great program from a club member! Katie Henry by way of ZOOM, hooked us up with Chris Summers from Belize who spoke about mangrove preservation through numerous slides and pictures. A wonderful discussion and I believe it to be the first time the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary had a Director of Operations of Crocodiles speak! NOTE: Special thanks to Thomas Eatmon for ensuring our technology was “up to snuff” for our meeting.
Then on Thursday night, Trudie Crawford hosted the PINTS & PINOT for POLIO, a superb event with 30+ people there and a wonderful way to raise more funds for a worthwhile cause. Thanks, Trudie for everything you do for Rotary! You rock!
This week, get ready for a  pretty cool program. Have you ever heard of the story of the Montagnards? It’s a pretty special group of people and Ron Majors will share their story with our club.
Yours in Rotary!
Perry Clark

USO Helmet Fund's Wildly Successful Campaign Continues in November
Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's Jim Minor reports that the USO "Helmet Fund" has already taken in $500 PLUS several really generous donor commitments and “matching challenges” from Ross Bulla and other club members.  Jim says "the response this year has been totally awesome!!"  He also notes that that he needs to receive any cash or check donations intended for the FedEx 1:1 match on or before November 9 and that checks should be written to "The USO".  Also, that all donations are fully TAX DEDUCTIBLE!!
Lastly, This year for its Holidays for the Troops program, the USO has added an option called "Long Distance Bedtime Stories," in which deployed parents have a chance to record bedtime stories for their children at home.  The USO works to make this, and its other 'amenities services', available even to those men and women serving in forward operating bases ["FOBs"] other words, out there on the "front lines".
