It’s been a wonderful week in our Denver/Lake Norman Rotary world! To start - I want to give a shout out to Jeff Quasny for his educational and eye-opening presentation last Wednesday on his experience in the corrections field and the current state of our prison system. It started a few thought provoking conversations with other members of the club that shows it is a topic that needs to be in the spotlight so people grasp the reality of how broken the corrections system had been - and hopefully that it is headed in the right direction in regards to mental health and re-entry.
Wednesday evening we had the outgoing and incoming board strategic planning “retreat” where we discussed the goals President-Elect Craig has set in motion for his upcoming year. We talked about financial goals but also about how we can make the “on-boarding” experience of new members better. Of course we also discussed how we can keep our current members engaged with our vision and mission. Lastly, we all concurred that we have one incredibly vibrant and active Rotary and that we have loved all of the fun we have been having together.
On Saturday, there was our 2nd school beautification project at Catawba Springs where a few handfuls of Denver/Lake Norman Rotarians helped create a prettier space for the students, staff and families. This completed our District Grant project where we were happy to join forces with Patty Korn to further her mission of Keep Lincoln County Beautiful.
Lastly, I received the sweetest text from our own Ellen Fichtelman this morning with a great picture of her (and husband Jim's) new bundle of joy. Cheers to our newest Service Above Self Rotarian in the Making! What a wonderful Mother’s Day it must have been for all of our members, their wives or daughters with so many cuties having been recently born. Wouldn’t it be great to have them all at Music in the Park this Saturday in their Future Rotarian onesies for a photo-op? (hint-hint).
Thank you for all that you do and all of your support! You are truly a God-send to me and to this community! See you on Wednesday!
