President's Message

Good Morning, Rotarians!

What an interesting speaker last week in Van Deaton from the North Carolina Lottery. I know I had several questions answered!

Numerous things to go over this week:
  1. Our speaker this week is Assistant Governor Tracy Petrosky. Tracy is a real estate agent from Sherrills Ford and you will want to attend to here her speak…. And also be present for a “special” recognition for one of  our members!
  2. Don’t forget OPERATION WARM as Charlie will accept checks until Sept 7th.
  3. Jack has informed us of some good future choices for new Rotary shirts that can be ordered.  For more information, please see below.
  4. This Saturday is MUSIC IN THE PARK so plan on attending a wonderful Saturday evening at the park with friends listening to some great music!
  5. Also- be advised that all BOARD MINUTES will now be published via DACdb.

Looking forward to seeing you this week at Unity!

Yours in Rotary,
Perry Clark

Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Work Shirts and Polos are now Available for Purchase

By Jack Funk

Please see below under "Download Files" for three flyers on the shirts.  They list all shirt specs including sizes and prices per size.  The prices include tax and and shipping.  There are no additional costs.

The Work Shirt does not offer color options.  It is royal blue with yellow gold print however, there are plenty of options on the polos.  Choices are listed on the spec sheets and the embroidery logo thread color can either be black, white or yellow gold on the shirt.

There is plenty of value for the money.  Comparable shirts with nearly the same features on the Rotary vendor site are much more expensive. Work Shirts are $18 each and the ladies and men's polos sell for $54.95 each. Those prices do not include shipping or tax and take 2-3 weeks for delivery.

If everyone could email me their needs listing the shirt style (work shirt or polo), size, and color choices I will tally, order and decorate.  The shirts will be delivered in one to two weeks.

It is important that all orders are back to me by this FRIDAY, August 19th.  No money is due until the shirts are delivered.

By Steve Baker

On Wednesday, August 10th, The Denver/Lake Norman Rotary welcomed Van Denton as its speaker. Van is the Director of Corporate Communications for the NC Education Lottery. The NC Lottery was voted and approved as a lottery in 2006. Lincoln County has received $54,998,845 to support its education programs since 2006. For the Lottery’s 2021 fiscal Year, Lincoln County received $4,817,050 for education programs. Here's a breakdown:
School Staff - $2,820,345
Pre-K - $674,764
School Construction - $893,878
Scholarships/Grants - $305,392
School Transportation - $122,671

Van discussed the different types of NC Lottery games that can be played, from the big money plays down to the $1 scratch off. All games are the luck of the scratch off ticket one purchases or the numbers that one picks for Mega Millions, Cash 5, Cash 4, or Cash 3 tickets. Choosing to play or not is a personal choice.

Operation Warm 2022 Deadline is September 7th
This is Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's fourth year working with Operation Warm to provide a new winter coat for every child in foster care in Lincoln County. The club purchases at least 110 coats that keep infants, children, teens and young adults (birth to 21 years) warm all winter. The recipients get to pick the color of the coat that they desire and their Social Worker provides the size for ordering and then, delivers the coat to the child.  This year, Sherry Reinhardt has grant monies to put toward our efforts. The rest of the monies are donated by Denver/Lake Norman Rotarians.  Operation Warm will need more money this year due to supply shortages and price increases. The average cost of a coat is now $45.00. The committee is small: Charlie, Norma Bohlen, Sherry and Cathy Smiley.  The committee will raise money for approximately one month with this year's deadline of September 7th so that orders can be placed with Kohl's, Carter and Walmart.  Please make checks out to the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation with "Operation Warm" on the memo line, so that your contribution can be tax deductible. Businesses, neighbors and friends are also welcomed and encouraged to donate.
