Last week’s return to singing was great fun. I enjoyed watching those who sincerely embraced it almost as much as those who appeared to be trying to sing their way out of a paper bag. Enthusiasm, fortunately, counted for more than pitch.
Then came Thursday night’s Changing of the Guard, which was truly the icing on the cake — and, fittingly, there actually was cake as we celebrated the first anniversary of our satellite club at Trilogy.
The evening had everything: tears of remembrance, tears of joy and, unless I misread the room, perhaps even a few tears of embarrassment. Seriousness gave way to laughter, laughter gave way to calamity, and somewhere in the middle of it all, I may or may not have been officially inducted as president.
Quite honestly, I am still not certain.
Nevertheless, until I am formally impeached, removed by parliamentary procedure or asked to surrender the bell, I intend to continue serving.
Thank you to everyone who made the evening meaningful, memorable and just unpredictable enough to feel like Rotary.
Until next Wednesday, may something good happen because you were there.
