It is the 2nd week of January and the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Board worked double time at our meeting this past Friday. We had several topics of discussion and several decisions to make. We discuss regularly the need for a signature fundraising event for our group. Where we have several projects that we participate in, we haven’t had a major fundraising event since Denver Days was in existence. (And even that was not a major fundraiser due to the amount of time and energy we as Rotarians put into it). This brought up the topic of Music in the Park. MIP has been an annual event for six years now, minus the 2020 hiatus due to COVID. It is a wonderful community event but could it be a serious money maker? We know it is a fantastic way for us to showcase Rotary and what we do, but it does take involvement from our members. If you would like to help, give and help implement ideas on how to take this event from good to phenomenal (ok, I’ll settle for great) please attend the Music in the Park’s next meeting which takes place after our regular meeting on January 17th. Some of the tasks involved are the vetting and securing of bands/entertainment, the Coordination of parking, and money making opportunities where funds go towards the other charitable organizations we support. I know there are plenty of venues where people can go to hear live music, eat delicious food and sip on craft beers, but Rescue Squad Park is near and dear to our hearts since Denver/Lake Norman Rotarians were critical in the park’s existence. Don't forget, tomorrow night (Tuesday, 1/9/24) is our January social at Margaritas in Denver from 5-8! Our social committee has done a great job planning these events and they have been well attended. Grab a friend or your significant other and drop in anytime for some light bites and a cerveza!
