Dear Rotarians,

Rotary is so good for our bodies and souls. It helps us connect with one another and to do good for others - both of which are essential to our health. Additionally, important factors that support our physical and mental health are humor and laughter.

This week, Wednesday, March 18th, brings us the celebration of National Awkward Moments Day, where we can pause and find levity and humor in some of those moments that just don’t go so well. It’s a day that encourages us to laugh versus dwell on the things that can be cringe worthy or a bit uncomfortable. It’s a day that helps us embrace our shared humanity and acknowledge that everyone experiences an awkward moment now and then and to recognize that we are not perfect and that is okay and down right normal! Being able to laugh at ourselves is so important because it serves as a powerful tool for mental health, resilience and social connection. It transforms the awkward into self- acceptance. Laughter and humor are essential to our well-being because they truly are a natural form of the best medicine we can experience. They boost our immune system, help us experience a reduction in stress hormones, and support heart health by relaxing our bodies and improving blood flow. We know laughter is contagious. It predates human speech and signals safety, connection and acceptance.

So this week let’s laugh a little more, go a little easier on ourselves and others, and embrace the not so perfect, very human moments, which connect us and help us find even more enjoyment in service and advancing goodwill.

I am looking forward to laughing with you this Wednesday morning.

Kindest Regards,
Trudie

Race For Philanthropy Update for Rotarians

As we get closer to Race For Philanthropy, a quick reminder that if you are attending, we are generally assuming you will also be helping with a volunteer role during the evening. It takes a lot of people doing small jobs well to make the event work, and Rotary involvement is a big part of that.

Rotarians are encouraged to invite their significant other to attend. If your significant other is coming, we also would encourage them to also invite at least one couple or two individuals who would genuinely enjoy the evening and appreciate the purpose behind it — people who value community, generosity, and the kind of work our Foundation supports. The goal is simply to continue building the right audience, because who's there matters.

Everyone attending must register in advance by typing raceforphilanthropy.com/rsvp into a web browser exactly as shown. Please do not add “www.” before the address.

A few registration notes:
  • Significant others and their guests should register as “Host’s Guest
  • Every Rotarian is listed on the host list by first initial and full last name
  • Significant others and their guests should select your name as their host

One small note: the host list is pulled directly from our Rotary database, so if the first initial you commonly use differs from what appears in Rotary records, please let Ross know so guests can find you easily when registering.

This simply helps us keep registrations organized and tied to the right host as they come in.

Thank you for helping make this a thoughtful, well-shaped evening that does real good for our community.
