President's Message

Happy New Year, fellow Rotarians!

May 2026 bring you and your families happiness, health, peace and joy!

Wishing the new year brings our Rotary continued fellowship, growth, and renewed purpose as we serve one another and our community with compassion and commitment!

Fun Fact:

At the 2026 Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day, Rotary International entered a float with the theme The Magic in Teamwork, which symbolized the beauty of diversity and shared purpose through iconic wildlife under floral canopies.

The Rose Parade has a viewing audience of over 41 million households in the US and 28 million households around the world in more than 243 countries/territories – making it Rotary's biggest Public Image event every year.  While watching the 1979 Pasadena Rose Parade on TV, Jack Gilbert, President of the Wilshire Rotary Club in LA had an idea. Rotary would be celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 1980. Jack believed by entering a float in the 1980 New Year’s Day Rose Parade, Rotary could communicate its message, “Service Above Self” to millions of people worldwide. Seven DG’s in California agreed, formed the Rose Parade Committee and they have since entered a float every year since 1980, beginning with the theme “Love Makes the World Go Around.”

May we be inspired by that beautiful message – “love makes the world go around.” Indeed it does! Wishing you a year ahead full of love and joy and I am excited to see what we do together in the spirit of love, compassion, service and the “magic” found in teamwork and in helping others.

I am so looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Wednesday, January 7th as we gather in service and fellowship to create meaningful, positive change - locally and around the world.

Here’s to a year of love, purpose and connection!

Love,

Trudie

Shoe Donations for "Shuz for Santa Cruz 2026" Continue This Wednesday
Jim and Ash Minor will be going on a Building Mission trip to Guapiles, Costa Rica in January with the Men's Mission Team from the Weddington UMC. They will once again carry any donated shoes for distribution to the underserved rural communities surrounding Guapiles, notably Santa Cruz. Jim will be collecting donated shoes at our weekly meetings through January 7th. Any and all "gently used" shoes for infants, toddlers, adolescents, men and women are welcome. This area is 700 miles north of the Equator and it's HOT there year-round, so no winter footwear please!! Thanks to our Club for their perennial support of this great humanitarian shoe donation program!!
