President's Message

Greetings, Denver/Lake Norman Rotary!

It has been a busy business week in Rotary.  Jim Perry, with the help of his lovely assistant Debbie Perry, gave us the in’s and out’s of the Rotary Foundation.  We learned a great deal about it from the Rotary International level down to our own group and the impact giving has globally and locally.  Thanks Jim for the 101-level breakdown!

We then had our November board meeting on Friday where there was much discussion about various upcoming and potential projects.  We will be providing and serving meals again at the Asbury School in Lincolnton Nov. 21st.  We will help with the East Lincoln Christian Ministries Angel tree.  We will NOT be collecting shoes for Santa Cruz this year but we will collect for the USO Helmet Fund (where the NFL’s Salute for Service matches dollar for dollar) the money raised.  (AMAZING project to help the bravest of the brave protecting our country).  We would like to find a project where we can get involved and submit for a GLOBAL grant.  (Please bring suggestions to me or any other board members)  Operation Christmas Child is underway and it is humbling to see how much our Rotary member’s contribute to this wonderful event.

Something else discussed:  The various committees needing assistance…please let myself and Cathy Smiley know which one/ones you are interested in serving by November 29th.  This week there will be a list of the committees on each table with a brief overview and who is the committee chair.  If by Nov 29th we do not have you down for something you will be placed on one.  This is the time to utilize your talents or learn about an avenue of service you are not familiar with where you can develop new talents.  As always, feel free to reach out to me with questions.

Make it a productive and helpful week!  See you Wednesday!

Andie

2023 USO "Helmet Fund" Campaign Begins
Denver/Lake Norman Rotary will again be supporting our USO with this year's 'Helmet Fund', starting on November 8 and running through November 29.  This year, and as part of the NFL's "Salute to Service" initiative to "Honor, Empower, and Connect" our heroes, the NFL has generously offered to match all gifts given this month, dollar for dollar, up to a total of $50,000.  The USO thanks our Club for keeping our Service Men and Women strong and connected to Family, Home, and Country, this Holiday Season.
