President's Message

Hello my Rotarian friends!

Where has the summer gone?  It feels like yesterday the first daffodil popped up at our farm.  This past Saturday marked the end of the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary’s Music in the Park Summer Concert Series.  (Which also seemed to have just gotten started.)   The sounds of bluegrass and country from Adam Rose and Wayne Taylor filled Rescue Squad Park as the sun faded and the cool night air moved in.  The food truck line-up was stellar, beer and wine flowed, and the crowd slowly but surely started to dance.  It was, and most of the concerts are, a night filled with good times and even better people.

I want to personally thank all of the Denver/Lake Norman Rotarians and the Music in the Park board for the tireless work of making this event happen. There is a great deal of work that goes into the coordination of sponsors, planning of entertainment, social media marketing, corralling of food trucks, setting up the pavilion, parking of cars, selling of raffle tickets and answering questions from other attendees.  The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is represented to ensure the safety of everyone and they too deserve a huge thank you!

While I am sad that the series is over for the year, I look forward to the next season of planning to make the event even better for all of the citizens that come out to enjoy great music, food, and most importantly, chilling outside with their family and friends.  It warms my heart to see the smiles, hear the laughter, and watch the dancing.  It warms my heart even more knowing that we Rotarians are providing this much needed thing called “community”.

Call to Action:  If you have a talent for event planning, sponsorship solicitation, food truck corralling please be on the lookout for the next MIP board meeting and plan to join in on the fun!

Until Next Year - Cheers!

Andie

Operation Warm 2023 is a Huge Success
In Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's fifth year working with Operation Warm to provide a new winter coat for every child in foster care in Lincoln County, the club has raised approximately $4,000. The club will be purchasing coats that keep infants, children, teens and young adults (birth to 21 years) warm all winter. The recipients get to pick the color of the coat that they desire and their Social Worker provides the size for ordering and then, delivers the coat to the child.  For 2023, 92 kids will receive coats with 42 older children receiving hoodies .

Cathy Smiley headed up this year's committee, with assistance from Charlie Bohlen, Norma Bohlen, and Sherry Reinhardt.  The committee raised money for approximately one month with this year's deadline in early September so that orders could be placed with our various suppliers.

Checks can still be made out to the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation with "Operation Warm" on the memo line, so that your contribution can be tax deductible.  Checks can be hand-delivered to any committee member or sent to Denver/Lake Norman Rotary, P.O. Box 861, Denver, NC 28037. Businesses, neighbors and friends are also welcomed and encouraged to donate.
