President's Message

Hello Denver/Lake Norman Rotarians

I hope everyone had a relaxing, albeit hot, weekend and that you were able to accomplish many items off of your to-do list.

This past Wednesday’s meeting was, again, chock filled with a great deal of information on things happening within our group and community. Without dismissing any one or thing I think it is fair to say that we very much enjoyed hearing what the 4 RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy held this past March) attendees took away from their 3 day session. It is wonderful to know that Rotary is passionate about the youth and helping to give the students skills that they will be able to implement their entire lives. All with the hope of fostering service-minded individuals who will soon be our future.Talk about a way to promote Gordon McInally’s vision for this year! Creating Hope in the World. I, for one, am grateful to know that our organization is doing what it can to teach problem solving, critical thinking and civility by giving this once in a lifetime opportunity to those that want to seize it. They are our future and we will have nothing to show for all of our effort if we do not support our youth and the RYLA program! I feel we are committed as the Denver/LKN Rotary and for that I thank YOU!

COMMITTEE CHAIRS - please be prepared this Wednesday to give a short report for your committees that will help us in planning our events and meeting speakers as we discussed at the board meeting this past Friday! If you do not have anything to report, that is ok, but if there is news for anything please let me and or Vickey know.

Looking ahead, to the very near future, our next speaker is none other than our District Governor - Sean Gibson. Let’s all give him a very big welcome this Wednesday Morning where we will get to hear his vision for the 2023-2024 Rotary year. This may also be a good time to bring that friend who has been wondering what we are all about. It will be a full meeting but we will try to get you out the door by 8:30. Please stick around to say hi to Sean if you don’t get to say hello during breakfast.

See you in less than 48 hours! I look forward to it each and every week!

Yours in Rotary Service!

Andie

Collections Start for Operation Warm 2023
This is Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's fifth year working with Operation Warm to provide a new winter coat for every child in foster care in Lincoln County. The club purchases coats that keep infants, children, teens and young adults (birth to 21 years) warm all winter. The recipients get to pick the color of the coat that they desire and their Social Worker provides the size for ordering and then, delivers the coat to the child.  For 2023 older children will receive hoodies since they much prefer them to actual coats.

This year the committee is headed up by Cathy Smiley with assistance from Charlie Bohlen, Norma Bohlen, and Sherry Reinhardt.  The committee will raise money for approximately one month with this year's deadline in early September so that orders can be placed with our various suppliers.

Please make checks out to the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation with "Operation Warm" on the memo line, so that your contribution can be tax deductible. Businesses, neighbors and friends are also welcomed and encouraged to donate.
