Such a great week in Rotary! It is always my privilege to welcome new members to our group. I am still elated when I think back to how I became a Rotarian and why it is important to give something back. The people that I met within the first year are still some of my closest compadres and I would do anything for them as I would for all of you.
We were fortunate enough last week to welcome Jeff Quasny and I appreciated his words as he expressed his gratitude for being included in this great group of ours by Joanie! It is always inspiring to watch a new member talk about themselves. It’s no easy task to just get up in front of 30-40 people at 7 something in the am to try to surmise life in 3-5 minutes. But Jeff did a great job and I can tell he has a Rotarian heart. Welcome Jeff! I look forward to getting to know you more and sharing some fun and noble experiences together.
I had mentioned in a previous meeting that August, in the Rotary year is Membership and New Club Development Month. We have had serious quality join our ranks in the past 8 weeks. Looking forward to New Club Development - I have had several members approach me about starting a social committee. Woohoo - right up my alley! This committee will be responsible for planning gatherings where we can not just have fun, which is very important to building a happier membership, but also events where we can fund raise. Fund raise for ??? you ask? Well, this area is also something the board and various club committees are working on and we will have more to present on this after our next board meeting which is taking place 9/8/23 at 7:30 at 2173 Smith Harbour Dr. All members and ideas are welcome! More info on this new committee will follow. If you are interested please shoot me an email.
See you Wednesday!

Attention, Rotarians! You can support Asbury Academy’s students and staff by donating school supplies. Asbury is a public alternative school in Lincolnton that serves kids in grades 7 through 12.
Please bring supplies to Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's 8/16 and 8/23 meetings so that they can be delivered to Asbury Academy. Click on "Read more..." below for a list of items needed for each student.
This is Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's fifth year working with Operation Warm to provide a new winter coat for every child in foster care in Lincoln County. The club purchases coats that keep infants, children, teens and young adults (birth to 21 years) warm all winter. The recipients get to pick the color of the coat that they desire and their Social Worker provides the size for ordering and then, delivers the coat to the child. For 2023 older children will receive hoodies since they much prefer them to actual coats.
This year the committee is headed up by Cathy Smiley with assistance from Charlie Bohlen, Norma Bohlen, and Sherry Reinhardt. The committee will raise money for approximately one month with this year's deadline in early September so that orders can be placed with our various suppliers.
Please make checks out to the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation with "Operation Warm" on the memo line, so that your contribution can be tax deductible. Checks can be hand-delivered to any committee member or sent to Denver/Lake Norman Rotary, P.O. Box 861, Denver, NC 28037. Businesses, neighbors and friends are also welcomed and encouraged to donate.
