President's Message

Hello my fellow Rotarians!

We interrupt this previously scheduled Rotary PETS seminar to bring you…Baby Nora Kate! Hot Dog! Where there are not many things that would keep me away from, or make me leave, PETS - this highly anticipated arrival tugged at my heart and I had to leave Greensboro and head to Charlotte once I knew my daughter Katie was admitted at Atrium Main. Yes, I know daughters give birth all the time without their moms but this time was not going to be that case. You see, I have a history of having mammoth sized babies that came with complications and we thought Katie could follow suit. I spent innumerable nights praying to the powers that be that everything would turn out a-okay but there was no amount of faith that would entirely relieve my anxiety. But just like any good daughter does, Katie proved all of that worry to be for nothing. She was a trooper and she set her mind to the task at hand and popped out Nora Katherine Jessen at 9:56 PM 3/15/24 weighing in at a 7.6 lbs of snuggly, kissable love. Mom, Dad, and baby are all healthy and at home recovering.

I want to give a huge shout out to the leadership team in District 7670 who were very supportive of my decision to leave. Their support meant a great deal to me. Also, for our beloved Trudie, who was my roommate when the call came in at 4:30 am that Katie’s labor had started. We laughed and giggled like school girls, (probably annoying our surrounding neighbors), sharing stories and comparing fun pics of babies. She listened to me go over my fears without judgment and encouraged me to be with Katie during this milestone in life. Also, Ross and Craig - thank you for checking in with me throughout the day to be sure all was going well.

While Jason and I are elated, over the moon, drunk in love with Nora Kate, I have happiness in my heart knowing that my extended family of Rotary stands behind one another, showing support to each other in the highs and lows of life. We truly are a family and I will not take that for granted. I apologize in advance for the barrage of baby photos to come. I promise there will be many pics of Nora Kate along with our other recent and soon to be born babies and grandchildren in their “ I’m a Future Rotarian” onesies!

Cheers all around!

Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Exceeds Goal for District 7670 CART Campaign Ending 3/31

Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's CART Campaign has been highly successful so far.  President Andie Taylor and CART Chair Joe Lampron report that currently the total amount collected between http://mycartfund.org and the blue buckets is $3,288.91 and has exceeded our group's goal of $2,661.  Thank you!

Founded in 1995 by Roger Ackerman, a Rotarian in Sumter, SC, The CART Fund (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) is a non-profit grassroots organization that provides “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research grants to help find a treatment or cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Roger passed away in 2018, yet to this day, we still adhere to our founder’s initial mission – that 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to research! Since 1999, 64 grants totaling more than $11 million have been awarded to 62 recognized research institutions in the United States.

The CART Fund is a 501(C)3 organization (Federal ID #31-1466051) governed by an Executive Committee and a Board of Directors composed of representatives from qualified Rotary districts that support the program. CART is chartered as a nonprofit organization under the laws of the state of South Carolina.

CART has been recognized as an “angel charity” by the SC Secretary of State for being “extremely effective at giving a high percentage of their total expenditures directly to programs for their designated cause, their compliance with the S.C. Solicitation of Charitable Funds Act, and their high use of volunteers in their fundraising efforts.”

While primarily supported by members of Rotary Clubs in the United States, CART has an active volunteer base and can accept donations of major gifts, bequests or volunteer efforts from anyone. A new donor recognition program was recently introduced, allowing “recurring donors” through the online system to be designated as members of the “Roger Ackerman Circle.” Click here: https://mycartfund.org/ to sign in with your DACdb user name and password.  To donate without using your DACdb credentials, click here: https://mycartfund.org/NewUser.cfm.
