President's Message

Hello my fellow Rotarians! What a great presentation Elijah had last week with information about his and Gail's trip to South Africa.  I don't know about you but I could have looked at 2000 more photos of the scenery and wildlife. Thanks Elijah for taking me to a place I have wanted to visit since I was a little girl and saw the movie Out of Africa (with Robert Redford and Meryl Streep). I will get there one day soon.

As March continues to roll on we have many events going on. This week, in our world of Rotary, for those that don’t know it, is PETS.  This stands for President Elect Training Seminar held for club President Elect (Craig) and President Nominees (Trudie and Ross) not just in our district but for our ZONE. Typical attendance is around 500 and it is a 2 day inspirational seminar on what to expect during their term. The days are filled with high energy planning sessions where we spend plenty of time listening to great ideas, sharing successes clubs are having in their projects and fund-raising efforts, as well as just a fun time to get to know other Rotarians from around the region. PETS is where friendships are made and collaboration occurs but also gives the opportunity for your club leaders to bond. This will be my third year attending but obviously not because I will be president again. I have been asked, and I accepted, to be an Assistant Governor (AG) for our District starting in July. I am honored and look forward to expanding my Rotary journey. The best part is that I get to do it with you.  An AG is the point person for 3-5 clubs within the District. Denver/Lake Norman Rotary is one of my clubs and I know we will provide more and better service projects in the following years. Thank you to everyone who has supported, and mentored, me along my Rotarian path. Being surrounded by people like each of you has given me the inspiration to answer the call to do more and give something back!

I look forward to this Wednesday where I will start a little earlier to be sure we give ample time to our committees, special presentation, our speakers and our beloved Happy Bucks!

Cheers,

Andie

Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Exceeds Goal for District 7670 CART Campaign Ending 3/31

Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's CART Campaign has been highly successful so far.  President Andie Taylor and CART Chair Joe Lampron report that currently the total amount collected between http://mycartfund.org and the blue buckets is $3,288.91 and has exceeded our group's goal of $2,661.  Thank you!

Founded in 1995 by Roger Ackerman, a Rotarian in Sumter, SC, The CART Fund (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) is a non-profit grassroots organization that provides “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research grants to help find a treatment or cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Roger passed away in 2018, yet to this day, we still adhere to our founder’s initial mission – that 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to research! Since 1999, 64 grants totaling more than $11 million have been awarded to 62 recognized research institutions in the United States.

The CART Fund is a 501(C)3 organization (Federal ID #31-1466051) governed by an Executive Committee and a Board of Directors composed of representatives from qualified Rotary districts that support the program. CART is chartered as a nonprofit organization under the laws of the state of South Carolina.

CART has been recognized as an “angel charity” by the SC Secretary of State for being “extremely effective at giving a high percentage of their total expenditures directly to programs for their designated cause, their compliance with the S.C. Solicitation of Charitable Funds Act, and their high use of volunteers in their fundraising efforts.”

While primarily supported by members of Rotary Clubs in the United States, CART has an active volunteer base and can accept donations of major gifts, bequests or volunteer efforts from anyone. A new donor recognition program was recently introduced, allowing “recurring donors” through the online system to be designated as members of the “Roger Ackerman Circle.” Click here: https://mycartfund.org/ to sign in with your DACdb user name and password.  To donate without using your DACdb credentials, click here: https://mycartfund.org/NewUser.cfm.
